How To Configure Dlink DSL-2730U ADSL2+ Modem Router For Your Broadband Connection

Many of you are new to the broadband internet services provided by service providers like BSNL,MTNL,Airtel configuring the ADSL modem for using their service gets slightly complicated for a new users. So most of the users using the ADSL modem provided by their service providers and pay the monthly rent of the modem which will increases the cost of their internet bills. This article will help you configure and install your own ADSL modem to work with your provider like BSNL,MTNL,Airtel.Since all the ISP’s providing high speed broadband services the configuration steps would be similar.

Step 1 :
Open the box of your Dlink DSL - 2730U which contains a Modem+Router, Cd, RJ45(Lan Cable), RJ 11(Phone cable), connection splitter and a power adapter.

Step 2 :
Power up the device by connecting power adapter then connect the RJ 11 (The direct wire of your phone connection ) to the RJ 11 port of your modem and connect the RJ45 cable to your DSL modem and then connect it to your computer in the Lan port.
Step 3 :
Now insert the Cd into your CD/DVD– RW then when it loads the first page you will see is like this .Select your preferd language and click on start .
Step 4 :
Make sure that you have power up the device and the device is showing green colour light below the power tab as showed in the below pic after ensuring that click on next .
Step 5 :
Connect device to your computer through RJ 45 (Lan cable) which we have already did in step 1 .After ensuring that your device is connected to computer and the front link led is showing up , click on next.

Step 6 :
This step is little bit confusing  for some of you when we have a direct phone  line why we need to use splitter or micro filter.Basically the use of splitter is to divde a phone line , by which we can use it as a seprate line for phone and seprate one for internet .So we need to connect the direct line to the slot with name line , then connect one line to the slot of splitter having name phone and connect it to your hard phone or cordless  whatever you are using  and connect another line to the splitter having the name modem and connect it to the ADSL modem ,so the structure of your connection would be like this
When you have successfully connected the phone line to your Modem the DSL led on the front of your modem should be green as shows below ,then click on next .
Step 7 :
Then it will check the connectivity of your internet connection .Meanwhile please prepare the connection information provided by your ISP.
Step 8 :
Select your country and then internet service provider all the ISP usually suggest to configure in pppoe mode.Mtnl users select Mtnl(PPPoE) and Airtel user select Airtel(PPPoE) .Encapsulation remains LLC refer the below table for VPI/VCI or you can contact your ISP for details :

Service Providers
VPI
VCI
MTNL
0
32
AirTel
1
32
BSNL

35
VSNL

Step 9 :
Please contact your ISP for your username and password .If you are using the MTNL connection then
Username: - Telephone No (22XXXXXX).
Password: - Consumer No (20XXXXXXXX).
Check your telephone bill for details .
Step 10 :
Then enter the name of your wireless connection it could be your name or any other name but for the security reason I will suggest you to set the name something complicated which will let the other user or unknown user away from your connection .Select the channel to auto and the encryption to WPA-PSK and below enter the password which you want  to use for your wifi connection .

Step 11 :
Now this page will show the name of your wireless connection , click next to continue and if you want to change it hit back button .
Step 12 :
Now , the wizard checks the connectivity of internet connection .It will take some time so please be patient .

Step 13 :
After that you will get the message “Success connect to the internet now! “ .So it’s all done and you are successfully connected to the internet if you are connected with Lan cable you can open your browser like internet explorer , chrome, firefox  and access the internet but if you want to access with your wifi .I will let you know in my next post .

  4. Should the user name: i.e. MTNL telephone no. have a suffix @a
    example: 25991234@a

or just the 8 digit no: 25991234

  5. Only use your 8 digit phone no that will work .

  6. If the DSL LED light doesnt glow while setting up, does that mean that the broadband connection is not available?

  7. Yes It Is , the Dsl Light shows the connection strength. If the Dsl is blinking it means that you have a weak internet connection may be some cabling issues and if there is no light below the Dsl it means that you dont have an active broadband connection. Please make sure that when you are setting up the Router , the dsl is up and stable .
